A visual collaboration with artist and botanist Adrian Tenney as part of her new album under the project BADLANDS. Shot and edited with practical effects derived from local plants and shed snakeskin.
A short tone poem in visual form about a cat, Moon, Mooney - the bringer of kisses. Words by Justin Andrew Johnson, shot by J.T. Higgins, and edited/read/acted by Patrick Stephenson.
STEREOGUM SAYS: "Brooklyn-based dream-pop quartet Uni Ika Ai make a rhythmic, wonderfully askew brand of ethereal pop. They’re set to drop their debut full-length Keeping A Golden Bullseye In The Corner of My Mind this fall. The second foray we receive into the album is “Soft In Ice,” along with a set of visuals. It’s a slow-churning heavy-hitter with Maia Friedman’s sultry, breathy tone floating over a deep-burrowing bass line, knocking drums, and playful digital synth blips. The accompanying clip is a deft black-and-white play of light and shadow from director Patrick Stephenson. Distorted, glitch-y effects with white noise are mixed in with warped monochrome images before we clearly see Friedman passionately delivering her lyrics for the powerful crescendo on the last hook. It has a dark, moody feel thanks to the ambience the Freedlyville Quarry, the US’ oldest quarry, provided. Watch."
Part of a larger series of "music films" in the vein of Les Blank, for the newly formed husband and wife band HOLY ROLLING HYMNS. Shot on location in the wild state of New Hampshire while cutting their first record at an old empty church in the woods.
Documentation of Berkshire band Uncle Terry's Swisch Wagon LIVE at Dewey Hall in Sheffield, MA. Audio captured 4 Track and synced in post. The goal for me is to always capture a great scene with one camera if possible - no cutaways necessary.
There are three other videos shot that night HERE, HERE, and HERE.

Effects test for forthcoming music video, utilizing old broken televisions, a fish tank, and Russian dancer Olga N. Bogdanova
Shot in the lush woods of the Adirondacks and a massive old marble quarry in Vermont, "XXXO" tells the story of a Space Cowboy intercepting a transmission of love on an interstellar journey, set to the music of Brooklyn-based psychedelic glam-rock band Smile Swamp Princess. For this project, along with producer/artist Molly Brolin, we created all the costumes, sets, and model space ships ourselves. Relying on a small crew of folks who volunteered much time and passion towards this wild idea. [ check out some behind the scenes images shot by our 2nd Camera ADP Justin Higgins ]
